How You Can Trick Your Metabolism To Help Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau

By Vanessa Summer

If you're like the majority of the people out there, you have tried a number of different diets and had a different degree of successes. You probably have lost weight, until you get to a specific point, and then you don't lose any more, no matter what you do. The plateau thing is actually fairly common--it is something that people deal with whatever diet plan they follow. It's not possible to avoid the plateau problem if you don't learn how to fool your metabolism.

You've probably already faced the plateau problem which will probably have caused you a lot of frustration and ended more than one diet plan. This is a strange thing that transpires to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have picked. Up to that point weight is coming off and then it just stops, and nothing works to keep the body losing weight. This is the body responding to the changes you're putting it through. Your body slows down your rate of metabolism when you get to this point since it wants to protect you from accidental starvation. What this does, then, is prevent your body from shedding any more excess weight.

This is what causes people to believe they aren't capable of losing the weight they want, and they quit trying. This is just what causes many people to start eating again and they typically gain back more weight than they lost in the first place. The best way to prevent this is to go for a diet in which you just shift your calories. What you really are trying to do is consume a different number of calories each day, which is supposed to fool your metabolism. When this works, it keeps your body from flicking the switch and going into protective mode. This can keep your body's metabolism rolling at its present rate instead of going slower and you'll keep on losing pounds. As soon as you arrive at this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will keep working the way it was designed to.

It is very simple and easy to integrate this type of plan into your everyday living. Most likely the most widely used method of caloric cycling is the 14 day method. In this program, you stick to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you eat the things you truly wish to eat. Move your food throughout each day to fool your metabolism and then eat anything you want to keep yourself from getting to the plateau. This keeps you from getting frustrated at a strict regimen with your eating. You can actually continue repeating these 14 days until you feel happy with the amount of weight you have dropped.

The 2 day plan is yet another excellent plan in which you eat as usual for one day and then trim your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. You do this every 2 days for as long as it takes you to achieve your weight loss goals. This is a program that is deserving of your attention as it could be just what you need to pass your plateau and get rid of all of the weight you would like to lose.
